With support from Governor Pritzker and community partners, HPH launched a community drive-through COVID-19 testing site in late April that has received an overwhelming community response, now completing more than 500 tests per week.
Although positivity rates in Chicago and Illinois have decreased significantly in recent weeks, the Humboldt Park community consistently has positivity rates three to four times as high as the state average.
Thanks to our donors, sponsors, and friends, our second Virtual Gala was a success! Our community helped us surpass our Challenge Grant goal of $100,00 and raise $340,000 in support of Humboldt Park Health.
While we were not physically together on June 16, the energy and support was felt across the internet.
Proceeds will support Humboldt Park Health initiatives to advance health equity in Humboldt Park and the surrounding neighborhoods, including building a team of community health workers.
Ever since I came to Humboldt Park Health in October 2010, we have worked to build and sustain our relationships with the communities we serve. This is why our theme remains
“The Power of Community.”
The Humboldt Park Health Foundation, with the support of many donors and grantors, has brought us the phenomenally successful Care-A-Van, which has traveled to hundreds of schools, day cares, and organizations in the community, providing free health services to thousands of children and young people in communities where access to healthcare is challenging.
Now, while continuing to support mobile health, our focus is widening to diabetes, which is an epidemic in our communities. Although 40% of the people admitted to our hospital have diabetes and half of adults in our primary service area are at high risk of getting this disease, we lack a sufficient safety net of outreach, education and clinical care to prevent and treat diabetes.
